ShipConstructor: celebrating a world-class success in Brazil
The past weeks and months have brought many reasons for celebration to the ShipConstructor global team. One success we wish to celebrate currently is the culmination of a two and a half year effort in Brazil, a success story the shipbuilding world has been paying close attention to Estaleiro Atlantico Sul, the largest shipyard in the southern hemisphere, leads the emergence of Brazilian shipbuilding, rising from the sands of an undeveloped beach area and completing the first in a series of 10 Suez-Max ships.
The task at hand was probably one of the largest and more ambitious projects in recent years: starting from an empty beach, with projects on order including 10 Suezmax, 5 Aframax, 4 Suezmax and 3 Aframax with DP, one P-55 Hull, with first deliveries due within 3 years.
Concurrently with the planning and building of the shipyard, after evaluating a number of high-end systems, ShipConstructor was selected to be the software of choice destined to be the technical, CAD/CAM foundation of this very ambitious and far-reaching adventure.
Less than 3 years later, the first ship was launched on May 7, 2010, ShipConstructor having proven once again its fundamental role in and vital contribution to very large scale shipbuilding projects of the most ambitious kind.
“From the earliest stages of this ambitious undertaking we partnered with EAS and allocated resources to ensure we contributed in every way we could to the success of this incredible challenge” said SSI CA CEO Darren Larkin, “Full implementation of ShipConstructor followed an extensive four week training effort with ShipConstructor’s Senior trainer, Graham Chamberlain dispatched with a clear mandate to ensure the client was proficient with the product in the shortest time.”
And, to seal the recognized value of the ShipConstructor solution in the ground-breaking Brazilian shipbuilding and offshore effort, KROMAV, a leading engineering firm in Brazil, also adopted ShipConstructor company-wide, and immediately implemented it following a hands-on, directly-on-the-job training session. “KROMAV recognizes not only the need to have staff trained in the software that is rapidly becoming the Brazilian gold standard, they also recognize the critical value of being able to train staff in a fraction of the time necessary for any comparable product” says Sincronia’s president, Bruno Franca.
EAS partnered with ShipConstructor’s Brazilian representative, Sincronia, whose engineers, together with ShipConstructors corporate resources, managed the implementation of ShipConstructor, allowing the client to be productive and efficient in record time. “Once again, ShipConstructors commitment to local representation of the highest caliber has paid off for our clients” says Michael Viala, SSI CA’s Business Development Manager.
Denis Morais, SSI CA’s Product Development Manager comments, “On the product and development side, we worked closely with the client to make sure the software was being used optimally as well and implemented functionality that allowed for EAS’s innovative and unique shipbuilding process.”
Estaleiro Atlantico Sul (EAS) is Brazil’s newest shipyard and the largest shipyard in South America (1.65 million sq. m). The company formed in 2005 with technological support from Samsung who in 2008 became a partner. The current $3.4 billion USD order book includes includes 14 Suezmax tankers, 8 Aframax tankers, P55 semi-submersible platform hull.
ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI CA)
ShipConstructor is an AutoCAD based shipbuilding CAD/CAM software suite that provides detail design and modeling tools for production engineering of marine structures. ShipConstructor captures all information relevant to the 3D design, manufacturing, maintenance, repair and refit of complex marine projects inside a Marine Information Model (MIM). At the heart of the model is a single relational database residing on a Microsoft SQL Server that can be integrated with related business processes and applications. ShipConstructor’s unique software architecture and AutoCAD foundation provide significant competitive advantages to the large and smaller companies alike.
