Daewoo Wins Deal to Build World's Largest Construction Ship
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has won a contract to build a multi-purpose construction vessel that will be nearly the size of six football fields. According to the Korean shipbuilder on Monday, the order from the Swiss-based Allseas Group is worth W723 billion (US$1=W1,232).
The vessel, which will be the largest of its kind, will be used for functions such as oil platform installations and pipe laying.
Carrying a large crane that can lift up to 48,000 tons, the vessel is expected to shorten the time needed to construct and disassemble offshore platforms.
