Danish newbuilding orders down 30 pct
The Danish shipping companies total order book has decreased by 30 percent from the beginning of last year until the beginning of this year. The newbuilding programme is today approximately 275 ships with just under 11 million DWT. The newbuilding programme is still quite big, compared to the size of the Danish merchant fleet today, which is approximately 13 million DWT.
According to The Danish Shipowners Association, the decrease reflects the difficult shipping markets, which in almost all segments is marked by overcapacity.
Danish shipping companies have placed less than 10 new orders during 2009.
