Putin prioritizes production line shipbuilding
Russia should focus on production line shipbuilding, rather than one-of-a-kind projects, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said. "This is the only way of ensuring that budget funding is put to really good use, not spread thin on the ground between numerous but ineffective projects," he said, addressing a defense-industry conference in Russia's second largest city.
Putin stressed that approach applied both to civilian vessels and warships.
He said the Industry and Trade Ministry and the Defense Ministry should keep the United Shipbuilding Corporation supplied with enough contracts and ensure the modernization of USC plants.
Putin participated in a bottle-breaking ceremony for Russia's latest arctic tanker, the Kirill Lavrov.
