Pacific Coast Shipbuilders Association Formed

Shipbuilders located on the West Coast of Canada formed an unprecedented alliance to provide a unified voice to all levels of government in an effort to promote BC’s shipbuilding industry. Named the Pacific Coast Shipbuilders Association (PCSA), the group’s vision is clear and simple:
‘The BC shipbuilding industry is ready, willing and capable to accept the challenge brought forth by the Government of Canada to deliver shipbuilding programs to meet the needs of their Federal fleet renewal.’
PCSA’s members, which include the majority of industry and labour associated with the shipbuilding industry in B.C., are committed to providing quality service and best value to the Canadian Government in their quest to build and maintain Canada’s maritime security and defence fleet.
The National Shipbuilding Policy, announced in July 2009, has the capability of providing approximately 70 million person hours over the next 30 years and is valued at over $40 billion. These programs include the construction of over 50 ships for the Federal Shipbuilding Programs.
It is important that all levels of government recognize and support BC’s shipbuilding industry for political, strategic, and geographical reasons.
“We believe the West Coast shipbuilding industry should be a participant in this program,” said John Shaw, PCSA chairman. “For well over a century, this industry has had a strong and rich heritage in providing state of the art vessels for the Government of Canada, amongst other customers.”
The Pacific Coast Shipbuilders Association presently consists of:

Intercon Marine Inc.
