Zhen Hua bags Sembcorp yard gig
China’s state-owned Zhen Hua Engineering has won a S$443 million (US$320 million) turnkey contract to build the first phase of Sembcorp Marine’s new yard in its native Singapore.
Sembcorp is investing $750 million on phase one of its new yard at Tuas View Extension, which the contractor hopes will allow it to expand its offshore and marine businesses and position it to cope with future competition.
Zhen Hua’s workscope involves the design and construction of the proposed four
very large crude carrier dry docks, wharves, quays, piers and other ancillary works for the new yard phase one project. Construction work is expected to start immediately and completion is due for May 2013.
The new yard will have a one-stop solutions hub for offshore engineering and construction, rigbuilding, shipbuilding and vessel repair and conversion. An improved dock and quay will be able to handle liquefied natural gas carriers and VLCCs, as well as rigs and floaters.
Zhen Hua is a subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.
