Largest ever cargo ship delivered to German company

Hyundai Vinashin (Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation) and the German ship company E.R. Schiffahrt organised a handover ceremony for a 56,000-tonne cargo ship to representative owner Sieke Kreme-Tiedchen on October 29.
The E.R. Bologna is 187.8m long, 18.30m high with the top speed of 14.5 knots. This is the biggest cargo ship ever built in Vietnam and in a record time of 11 months. The US$50 million ship is being handed over 2 months ahead of schedule.
Vu Minh Phu, director of the Hyundai Vinashin, said that to gain this achievement, Vinashin had to invest US$100 million in purchasing necessary materials and technology. The company also sent 130 workers and engineers to the Republic of Korea to absorb that country’s shipbuilding experience.
This is Hyundai Vinashin’s second new cargo ship in 2009 among the 10 cargo ships under the company’s contract signed with E.R Schiffahrt.
The E.R Bologna will leave Hyundai Vinashin port on October 30.
