Hyundai Heavy orders plunge 72% in Jan-Sept period
Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's largest shipbuilder, said Monday orders in the first nine months of this year plunged 72 per cent from a year ago amid weaker demand for new ships. The value of orders Hyundai Heavy received in the January-September period stood at US$7.47 billion, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Battered by the global financial crisis, Hyundai Heavy hasn't won a commercial ship order from foreign clients since the third quarter of last year. Instead, Hyundai Heavy has received orders for offshore facilities or power plants.
