China's Biggest Shipbuilding Base Took Shape
Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. held an opening ceremony for its Haixiwan Bayon Shipbuilding Base in Qingdao on August 20, 2009. The base, which lures a total investment of CNY 7.4 billion, is located in the Qingdao Economic & Technology Development Zone, Qingdao City, Shandong Province, east China. It has a land area of more than 330 hectares, a c length of five kilometers.
Moreover, as of 2009, it will have built up a 500,000 tons shipyard, a 300,000 tons shipyard, a 300,000 tons repair dock, a 150,000 tons repair dock, a 100, 000 tons repair dock, three 600 tons gantry cranes, a 350 tons gantry crane, a 200 tons gantry crane, and a 200 tons gantry crane.
Currently, the base has taken shape, with a scheduled shipbuilding capacity of near 2 million tons, repair capacity of 212 vehicles, four marine oil development platforms, and 500 lifeboats.
