Yiyang Lead Hunan's Shipbuilding Industry

Yiyang's shipbuilding industry maintains rapid growth in spite of the financial crisis where this industry sees a general downturn. Last year, nearly 40 shipbuilding factories in this city totaled 300,000 tons, yielding more than 1.1 billion yuan of output value, accounting for 80% of the total value yielded in Hunan's shipbuilding industry, Yiyang shipbuilding industry plays a leading role. In the first half of this year, five large shipbuilding enterprises in Yiyang City created 450 million yuan, a 24% rise over the same period of last year.
Located in the area of the Dongting Lake, Yiyang City has favorable conditions for shipbuilding. In addition, this city is also abundant in power supply and has a convenient waterway leading to the shipbuilding steel maker -- Wuhan Iron and Steel. All the above advantages help Yiyang spend around 300 yuan per ton less than other areas in building of ship. By making full use of these advantages, Yiyang granted support to the development of shipbuilding as a major industry for this city to catch up with other regions. Yiyang ushered in the strategic investor- China Haohua Chemical Industry (Group) Corporation while speeding up the mergers, acquisitions and restructuring activities and finally set up a ship manufacturing industry park in Yuanjiang city.
Up to now, Yiyang Shipbuilding Industry Cluster has been formed by this industry's two leading enterprises, i.e. China Offshore Shipbuilding Corporation and Sunbird Yacht Co., Ltd together with 30 private shipbuilding factories. What's more, the core technology level of the main products of the two above mentioned leading shipbuilding enterprises has reached domestic leading level in the same field.
