New joint scholarship with SMU and CBS to boost shipping talent pool

J. Lauritzen has engaged in a five-year partnership with Shanghai Maritime University and Copenhagen Business School. The so-called SMU-CBS Lauritzen GLOBAL Talent Scholarship will provide scholarships for up to 70 students until 2020.

The Chinese-Danish scholarship has been formed as part of J. Lauritzen’s strategy to attract and develop talented people in a partnership between J. Lauritzen, Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) and Copenhagen Business School (CBS). The scholarship will provide students the opportunity of exchanges between SMU and CBS and will allow top performing students to further develop their professional skills, personal networks and competences by studying at an educational institution abroad.

The scholarship agreement was signed on 7 May 2015, and Mr. Peter Borup, President of Lauritzen Bulkers, who attended the signing ceremony, looks forward to engaging with the global talents; ”Over the last two years, we have brought in a number of smart and skilled young people – and they have been adding new perspectives and new ambitions to the established Lauritzen platform”, says Mr. Borup, who is well-known among students at both CBS and SMU as guest lecturer. ”We hope that someday, some of these smart young people embarking on our new scholarship will be adding value to our business by bringing new perspectives to our operations”, Mr. Borup concludes on the future ambitions for the new partnership.

Talented students are tomorrow’s maritime leaders
In May 2015, the first three students from Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) were selected to receive the new CBS-SMU Lauritzen GLOBAL Talent Scholarship. Ms. Wang Shuhua, Ms. Chen Hongyu and Mr. Ni Jiahui are all enrolled at the International Shipping Management programme at SMU.

As part of the scholarship, the three students will attend the 2015 fall semester at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), where they will follow the bachelor’s programme in International Shipping and Trade together with students from Denmark and Singapore. As part of the scholarship agreement, nine CBS students will attend a four-week summer school programme in Shanghai hosted by SMU in 2016.
