Former ST Marine high level executives face criminal charges

Three former employees of ST Marine, including the company’s ex-president, were charged in the Singapore court on Thursday under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Penal Code.

ST Marine, an arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering, announced on Thursday the criminal proceedings against Chang Cheow Teck, Mok Kim Whang and Ong Tek Liam.

Chang, president of ST Marine from March 2008 to April 2010 and president of ST Aerospace from May 2010 to June 2014, faces three charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, according to ST Marine.

Mok, senior vice president (Tuas yard) of ST Marine from 1 June 2000 to 31 July 2004, faces one charge for alleged corruption. Ong, group financial controller and senior vice president (finance) of ST Marine from April 2007 to December 2012, also faces one charge under the Penal Code.

“ST Engineering is committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance and recognises that fraud is detrimental to the reputation of the ST Engineering Group. ST Engineering does not condone fraud, including corruption and bribery, and is fully committed to proactively mitigating the risk of its occurrence,” ST Engineering announced.

Details of the charges were yet to be disclosed by the company.

ST Marine constructs mainly naval vessels as well as a variety of specialised offshore vessels.
